HomeGlossary › Deduplication

Deduplication

Detecting and merging duplicates (the same person or company appearing several times) in a file or CRM.

Deduplication spots records that refer to the same entity despite spelling variations: "Jean Dupont" and "J. Dupont", "SNCF" and "SNCF SA". Without it, a CRM pollutes quickly and skews every count.

The hard part is not wrongly merging two distinct namesakes. Good deduplication relies on several concordant signals (email, domain, company identifier) rather than the name alone.
