Verify that a phone number belongs to a person

Does this number belong to this person?

Much more accurate.

How the verification works

Each number goes through the same checks, in this order. The first decisive evidence gives the verdict.

  1. 1

    The number is checked

We confirm it is a valid mobile number and read its country. A landline, a special number or an invalid number stops here and is not charged.

  2. 2

    The face is compared

When the number has a profile photo on a messaging app such as WhatsApp, it is compared with the person's LinkedIn photo. Same face: the number is theirs. A clearly different face: it is not.

  3. 3

    The names are compared

The names shown on the messaging accounts tied to the number, such as Telegram, are compared with the person's first and last name. Both must match to prove ownership.

  4. 4

    The history is consulted

If the number was already verified for this person, or for someone else, the verdict says so.

Four possible verdicts

  • Theirs

The number belongs to this person: same face, same name on its accounts, or already verified for them.

  • Not theirs

The number belongs to someone else: another face, another name, or already verified for someone else.

  • Undecided

Not enough evidence to decide. Not charged.

  • Invalid number

Not a valid mobile number (landline, special or unassigned number). Not charged.

Only decisive verdicts (theirs or not theirs) are charged.

When to verify a number

Before a calling campaign

Make sure your SDRs reach the right person, not a former employee or a relative.

To clean a CRM or a purchased file

Numbers age: people change jobs and lines get reassigned. Check them before they cost you calls.

To audit a data provider

Check a sample of the numbers a provider delivered and measure its real accuracy.

Why add the LinkedIn profile

The profile gives a photo and an exact name. With a photo, the face can be compared, which settles far more numbers than a name alone. Without a profile, enter the first and last name.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a phone number belongs to someone?

Enter the number with the person's LinkedIn profile, or their first and last name. Listar compares the photo and the names attached to the number on messaging apps with that person, and returns a verdict.

How much does a verification cost?

Only a decisive verdict (the number is theirs, or it is not) is charged. An undecided verdict or an invalid number is free. It uses the same credit balance as the rest of Listar.

Which countries are supported?

Mobile numbers from any country. Landlines and special numbers come back as invalid, free of charge. A number typed without its country code gets a default country (on this page, your browser's region), and the form shows how it was read before you submit.

What if the number changed hands?

Lines get reassigned. When the number was already verified for someone else, the verdict says so. When it used to be this person's number, that is flagged too.

Can I verify numbers in bulk?

Yes, through the Listar API with an API key: up to 10 contacts per request, at the same price. See the API documentation.
